Ernie has been feeling better. He wears out fast but he seems a bit more himself and even has gained a few pounds. Woo-hooo. I’d really like him to break 140 but we’ll see. I feel as though the miasma of the last few weeks has lifted just the tiniest bit. My shoulders feel less heavy.
Last night I was so glad it was Friday. The weather has been playing havoc with my back so I took a pain pill, a half a gummie, and I SLEPT. I mean I SLEPT. So hard. And so good. My cat feeding alarm went off at 7:00 this morning and I didn’t even go back to sleep, I actually felt pretty rested! I am delighted to be nestled in my little house with rainy dreary skies all around me. We just put food in the slow cooker for tonight..trying to keep our early in the day cooking plan going. Asian flavored country style pork ribs. Later Ernie will make a batch of rice and I’ll throw a bag of frozen stir fry vegetables in the slow cooker for the last bit. I rarely use frozen vegetables other than peas but I’m trying to focus on simplicity. Oh, now that I think of it, I bet I have some greens from Sola Gratia still in my freezer!
It’s hard to believe it’s Boneyard weekend. I with they had better weather but I hope it goes well for all the artists. I can’t imagine being able to pop around town checking out things. It feels like so long ago since I did that.
Okayyyy, so what pictures do I have for you today?
We’ll start with the Canteen Lunch in Ottumwa, reportedly the inspiration for the lunch counter in the later seasons of Rosanne. It was not open so sadly we couldn’t go in. It was opened in 1927 and moved to this location in 1936.
In 2000, the City of Ottumwa pursued the construction of a downtown parking ramp in the current location of the canteen. Upon offering to purchase the building, or paying for the building to be moved to another location, the owners and patrons alike insisted that it remain in place. Subsequently, in 2004 air rights were purchased above the canteen and a parking ramp was constructed overhead.1
It’s always good to know your hotel is strictly modern.
There’s something kind of dignified and determined about this brick building. I know it’s a little beaten down but it seems to be standing strong.
A bit overly tuckpointed, but look at that delightful lettering on this old garage.
This is pretty much how we watch tv these days. There always seems to be a giant black cat in the way.
You talking to ME?
Ok. Onward.
Love,
Cynthia

We watched the movie "Flow" (excellent) and for the first time ever, all 3 of our cats heard the cat in the movie calling to them and they wanted to enter the TV. A strange phenomena and a very cool movie.
Oh that garage! For years I daydreamed about rehabbing a barn, now it’s a garage/filling station that grabs me. What great pics. Wishing you both smooth sailing through the spring and summer!
