I didn’t plan to adopt a cat on the five year anniversary of David Olney’s death and name it Olney, but I did.
Plus another cat, and we named her Sack. Can’t have David Olney without Mary Sack.
We lost Hattie almost a year ago, at the end of January. I filled out an application at Catsnap in March but then suddenly thought, “No, it’s too soon, too soon.” Losing the forever inimitable Bob in 2022 and then Hattie a year ago, well, those were big shoes to fill.
I’d started browsing the Catsnap page again a month or two ago. Ernie was diffident but admitted he missed having cats around.
I showed him this picture:
Ernie’s response? “He’s cool.” And he’s right, there is just something slightly badass about this cat. We were intrigued.
We made an appointment to go into Catsnap yesterday morning. Just as I was maneuvering myself into the car Owen pulled up so we invited him along. I’m so glad we did as he was wonderfully helpful with everything. We decided pretty quickly that we would take this guy. We wanted to get two however, and our other top choice just from photos and descriptions ended up being utterly delightful. Thus, we suddenly had two cats!
We had decided on the names already. The badass black cat was clearly Olney, after David Olney, and behind Olney was of course the glorious Mary Sack, so Sack it was. Owen pointed out that naming a cat Sack was sort of odd. I thought about it and said, “Eh, I don’t care. She is Sack.”
We could tell Olney will be a handfull but he trotted right into his little cat carrier and popped right out when we got home. Sack was quite happy to curl up in hers for awhile before she ventured out. Olney wandered over and licked the top of her head.
Onward. Onward with two of the best, named after the best.
Love,
Cynthia
