Welp. I am so tired I can barely think straight despite sleeping heavily last night. My mind is extraordinarily scattered. Three main things of note:
Rod Picott was utterly glorious. He’s relaxed and happy and singing better than ever.
Leo is now sans gall bladder. I do NOT like seeing my beautiful boy in a hospital bed.
Oh, and I got through the first CSA pick up at work, a big event (just the organization getting ready for it) and it went pretty well.
The other thing to note is that all three of these things happened between Monday and Friday. This was not good planning, shall we say. Well, Leo’s event wasn’t planned. He started having what we now know was a gall bladder attack late last week. I kinda brushed off his back pain, saying, “Oh, you must have pulled a muscle.” It continued to get worse though and when he said it had moved to one side of his stomach we all thought, “uhhh,” and he and Ernie headed off to the emergency room. That’s three emergency room visits in a month: Ernie, Owen, and Leo. I do NOT plan to join this club even if it does seem like a family thing.
They admitted Leo on Saturday but his gall bladder was so inflamed that they wanted him on IV antibiotics for a bit before surgery. They did surgery Monday morning and all went well. Everyone seemed astounded by the inflammation and size of his gall bladder. They had to put a drain in because of the size and kept him in the hospital for another night. He is now home and doing ok, moving slowly but plans to try to go back to work tomorrow.
Owen’s doing ok but still feeling the effects of the accident. My poor sweet peas. I don’t like this.
So what helps in times like that? LIVE MUSIC, particularly by a person you love! As you may know, Rod Picott is very dear to us. And the Rod that showed up on Friday was a Rod I don’t think I’ve ever seen. He was relaxed and you could feel the peace emanating from him. Got to meet Ashley and as I told her, “anyone that makes Rod this happy is waaaay up there on my list of good people.”
It was a night of welcoming old regulars and some new folks, folks from Iowa, Indiana, and Sola Gratia!! People, as always, were generous with food and donations for Rod. I did get a bit teary now and then listening and watching. He and his music mean a lot to me, and represent the best of the spirit of our house concerts.
Much love to all that came and enjoyed. And much love to Rod, Ashley, and the donkeys.
Onward.
Love,
Cynthia
Yup, people bring good food!
Our beloved Rod.
Some folks seem to think they were born to be stars, so Olney took his place on stage.

I was worried about how the cats would do at their first house concert. Olney took it all in stride and ate up the attention. He did get out once but was scooped up and returned quickly (I think by Brian—THANK YOU). Sack was a bit more concerned about the whole thing, but as you can see, she ended up enjoying herself. And the music plays on.
wonderful time ! food and music. Love that Rod is happy with the beautiful Ashley.
It was a delicious event. both the music and the food.
