Random Notes from the Sandwich Life: December 10, 2024
I just got home from Physical Therapy and ate a late breakfast. Before I get to work I thought I’d post a few notes and pictures so I can remember the last few days. Firstly, PT went well and my beloved physical therapist told me I was doing the best he’d ever seen me do. I think my little make-do step of broken pavers from the patio stacked in the middle of the living room has worked out quite well (the stairs are still a little steep for me to practice on so we created a mini-step). So I am feeling pretty good. I’m also taking fewer pain pills too which pleases me.
Saturday afternoon we stopped by the Rosebowl to see my dear friend Teri and it was just lovely—got to see a few other loved ones as well. And I DO like a bar that decorates for Christmas. I need to make more effort to go out. It’s good for me both mentally and physically.
Last night Owen and Trinity came over and with Leo and Ernie, got the Christmas tree up and the mantle trees as well. They did so much more than I expected! Trinity really is the best. Oh, and Daisy came too! I am so lucky.
Ernie balancing a teeny hat on his head.
The top of the tree. My dad’s little Victorian angel, and the little boots from his childhood tree. Aunt Holly and Uncle Mistletoe looking a bit elderly but wonderful just the same and my utterly beloved David Olney peeking out from behind Uncle Mistletoe.
Tree decorating can be exhausting though. These two. ❤️
This little village is a work in progress. It’s on the table at the foot of my bed as I need some Christmas in there too.
Then as we headed home I saw they were tearing down yet more buildings. Sigh.
And I gotta say, I still have a hard time believing this building couldn’t have been saved.
However here’s a brighter spot in downtown.
The spreadsheet has been activated for Sunday for the Christmas with Fats and Kristi Rose show. We are keeping it way simple. We are embracing boxed wine. 🤷🏻♀️ I hope someone brings something better for Fats and Kristi Rose to drink! Remember, it’s BYOB but we’ll have (cheap) beer, wine, La Croix and iced tea. Oh, and Ernie is always happy to make coffee. Potluck at 4 (but no worries, you don’t have to bring anything) with appetizers and desserts and then we celebrate with Fats and Kristi Rose.
Ohhhhh, one last thing for local folks: As some of you know, the local Rotary has had a fruit fundraiser every December for many years. Sola Gratia Farm has been the recipient of some of the generosity made possible by those sales. This year the Rotary decided not to hold the sale so they have stepped into the breach and are selling them directly!
This will be beautiful fruit at a great price and will benefit Sola Gratia. Pickup is on the afternoon of Thursday, December 12 (if that's a problem however, I'm sure my resident elf could deliver) from 4-5:30. I hope you can support Sola Gratia and enjoy some delicious fruit! Order ahead at solagratiacsa.com/events
Onward, with strength and a bit of Christmas spirit.
Love,
Cynthia
Oh, by the way, I’ve really been enjoying all your comments of late. Thank you!
