Random Notes from the Sandwich Life: October 24, 2024
Random is just where my mind is right now
Ernie was filing records last night. You can never have too many Dave Edmunds records.
Salad turnips. Why have I never had salad turnips? I am in love. Little young white turnips (not the bigger purple topped ones) just cut up and seared in a cast iron skillet (in the drippings from some lamb chops) with salt and pepper. Absolutely heavenly. They won the plate.
I’m incredibly excited to have the new David Olney tribute album. I haven’t listened to it yet, will wait for just the right moment. It sold out right away but I’m sure more will be coming. His daughter Lilly’s words about her father are absolutely stunning.
A couple more pics from the Shindig at Sola. By Kim Gollings, courtesy Sola Gratia.
One of my favorite moments of the night? When Jason’s spinning had rumpled the rug he was standing on. I think it made us all nervous, but it was the inimitable Nan Holda (was she wearing her earmuffs yet?) who took it upon herself to go up and, between songs, ask Jason if she could straighten his rug. I love her. And we were all grateful.
I still have more thank you’s to write but I do want to give a quick shout out to a couple of friends that went out of their way to help support the show: Sandra Ahten and Kevin Elliott of Elliott Counseling, and Lori Allen of The Whip @ Backland Radio. I am, as always, blessed with great friends.
It’s been kind of an off-kilter week. I’m doing a bit better walking, not using my rest areas quite as much, we’ll see how this afternoon’s pick up goes.
One more pic…don’t recall who took it. My guys.
Onward.
Love,
Cynthia
Your son looks so much like my favorite high school English teacher, it makes me happy to see his face! 😆
You saved the turnip greens, right? Quick sautee, smidge of salt and pepper.
