Lovely breakfast in downtown Mineral Point. Meant to go back for a pasty…next time I guess.
Then, as Ernie tried to herd me into the car I just kept snapping pictures of the stone buildings. Side note: speaking of him herding me…I did REALLY well getting in and out of restaurants, bars, hotel, etc. with my walker. When we got to the hotel we checked in and got an accessible room which they usually put near the lobby. Loud but close. This one was the furthest room allllllll the way down to the end of the hall. Granted, it’s next to an exterior door, but given that one has to check in first…seemed like a flawed concept to me. I looked down the hall and said, “You’ve got to be kidding me,” but I trundled along, only pausing once or twice and got there in good shape. I was really pleased how I managed on the trip. Yay, me!
A BEN FRANKLIN!!!
and here’s a big old lime kiln not far away.
And some more limestone just a few towns over, along with one of my beloved stairways on the exterior wall.
There’s something the warmth of golden limestone that just hits me in the heart. We wandered the area (more to follow) and ended back in a dusky Mineral Point at the Midway again for an end of day drink and some time to ponder what we’d seen.
They have photo on the wall of the same wonderful back bar looking out over a crowd aways in the past. Nice.
Onward. Hope you felt a bit of the limestone glow yourself!
Love,
Cynthia
Looks very cool!
I just helped my mom put away her Christmas decorations and there were still a couple of price tags from our very own lamented Ben Franklin (also where I purchased my first and only ever bikini! Ha! 8th grade!) these are lovely pics. The dog statue is so cool. Happy New Year to you!
