Yep, it’s true.
While we are not starting regular house concerts once again, when some kind of celebration is needed, it seems the only way to do it!
This April will be the 20th anniversary of Ernie’s diagnosis of cancer.
Yes.
This is what the boys looked like.
This is what Ernie looked like.
This what I looked like (with my beloved sister, Judi).
Suffice to say, it was a LONG time ago on many different levels. When he was first diagnosed it was an incredible shock. Then surgery and radiation. I remember I would go to work early and then take off mid morning and meet Ernie at preschool drop-off and we would head to the old cancer center, in the basement, sometimes with Owen in tow, sometimes just us, for his radiation appointments.
For a while we thought maybe that was it. Then it came back, so we had Kane Welch Kaplin play at our house as a one off party for our 20th anniversary, because we honestly wondered if we’d have a 25th anniversary. It made sense to us.
There have been a lot more cancer related ups and downs over the years. I still shudder to think how sick he was a few years back and the wonderful support our friends gave us to get through that time.
Mind you, through these last twenty years, Ernie was also an incredible stay at home Dad and cared for my father, my sister and my mother as they were ill and dying. He became a beloved friend and support to my mother in particular. And he was a very loving, mostly patient husband who took such care of me during my own ups and downs.
He loves his family fiercely. The boys will never truly know how much he adores them. And as our family has grown to include Trinity and Tal, his love encompasses them as well.
So, what’s not to celebrate?
GO, ERNIE!
Celebrate 20 years of cancer behind us and drink a toast to the future with us. Who knows what it holds, but it will definitely hold love.
The absolutely brilliant, talented, and damned kind, duo of Eric Brace and Thomm Jutz will join us. No doubt Peter Cooper will be with us in spirit.
I smiled when I came across this recently.
Same old drill! All are welcome (please let me know if you plan to attend), $20+, all $ goes to the artists. Potluck at 6 (do join us whether you bring anything or not) with music to follow. Friday, April 5, 2024.
As Templeton the rat said, “This will be a night to remember!”
Onward!
Love,
Cynthia
The best way to celebrate for sure! ❤️
