It was kind of a big week for me. Starting with last Sunday’s outing with Ann and Bob, I actually ventured out three times for things that weren’t A. work, B. doctor, C. hospital. It felt great but I admit to being absolutely wiped out today. Today is going to hold nothing but watching some Australian Master Chef episodes from the couch, some reading, and perhaps planning what to do with our latest CSA and Farmer’s market hauls. I am going to rest and revel a bit in the fact that I am starting to recover, albeit slowly.
Tuesday was my birthday and I had a lovely day. I worked in the morning. Later Ernie took me out for a drink at Huber’s. Then home to relax. We had just enough left over from a gift card our beloved Robay had given us to order a steak and salad from Hamilton Walker’s to share. Then a beautiful slice of a perfect Vanilla Buttermilk Malted Milk birthday cake made by my one and only.
I worked Wednesday at home and then Thursday is my long day as I also work the CSA pickup. It’s delightful because of all the people I get to talk to but it does wear me the hell out. I’m sure it’ll get easier as I continue to recover. And besides, I get to work with Sophie which feels like some kind of karmic gift I don’t really deserve.
Then on Friday after a little bit of work I got to have lunch with our utterly beloved Grant Badger. You know how there are some people you technically don’t really know THAT well, but you just love them and feel a bond with them? Grant is one of those people. I just love him so much and I am ridiculously flattered that he made time on his trip from Mexico to see us. We also got to meet Yuri who was beyond absolutely lovely AND see old friend Jimmie Myers. I cursed my back which cut our visit shorter than I would have liked and then I cursed the person who left one of those turquoise bikes parked in the middle of the sidewalk outside the Esquire. I managed to scuttle past it by scooching along the planter wall while Ernie lifted my Road Guy walker in the air to get past it.
Once again, our life is buoyed by the friends we are honored to have.
Oh, and the other night I had big plans for cooking (or for making Ernie cook) but it seemed like too much work. Instead we threw some chicken thighs (with sumac, salt and pepper) in a roasting pan and cooked them for 30 minutes at 425. Then Ernie added strips of lacinato kale and corn off the cob (from Mary King’s family farm…YAY) plus a bit of grated parmesan we’d prepped for the recipe that didn’t happen in between the pieces of chicken and cooked it all another 20 minutes. Damned if it wasn’t delicious!
Onward.
Love,
Cynthia
