Yesterday morning I woke up and realized that Ernie had let me sleep later than usual. I clumped into the bathroom with Little Guy and as I sat there I realized there was no sign of Ernie. Maybe he went to the Farmers Market, I thought. I have TURNIPS COMING! Maybe even RUTABAGAS! Then as I left the bathroom I looked into the kitchen and saw my poor pathetic husband slumped over on a kitchen stool. I have a feeling he’d fallen asleep that way. I got him up and into the media room and safely onto the couch. He felt terrible and was bleary beyond measure. He also seems to have another infection in his jaw. This is what he looked like when I got him settled. My poor sweet pea.
Owen showed up fortuitously and helped him into the bathroom to try to gently brush the jaw area and use some salt water. I got on the phone with Carle and tried to get them to give him an antibiotic without going into Convenient Care, as they have in the past. To no avail of course and Ernie refused to go to Convenient Care and I can’t say I blame him.
I managed to fix some scrambled eggs for him and he ate them. He slept most of the day, waking up periodically to pet a cat, sip some water upon my request, and then back to sleep. We have some leftover pasta with peas and parmesan in the refrigerator so that worked for dinner and I sent him to bed early. And then I missed him. I wish my little bed down here were bigger. Hopefully I can do the stairs again eventually. We’ll see.
I spent the day doing some work and then in a sudden fit of, I don’t know, civic responsibility, I filed my taxes. I’m not getting anything back of course although in an unexpected twist I am getting a few hundred back from the State. Then I went back to fussing over some design things for work until I became cross-eyed and I knew it was time to stop.
I woke up this morning to the sound of him blowing his nose but fortunately he is feeling better. Lousy, but better.
Olney seems quite taken with Owen but after he left he came and curled up in Ernie’s lap and that was a major accomplishment. And so it begins.
The other exciting news of the day is that Owen got the bug into the garage. He brought over four wheels, took off the wheels it had on it, put the new wheels on, and then he and Leo were able to roll it into the garage.
Not quite the weekend I hoped for but I can’t complain, got a lot done. My poor beloved Heather has COVID so it could be worse. I’m itching for at least a mini wander. I’m thinking Wisconsin again although that actually takes the mini out of it. I’m also looking for bars with nice old wooden backbars in any vicinity. All recommendations welcome!
And lastly, it might be time to put the rest of the Christmas things away, but I am inordinately fond of this little wreath.
Onward.
Love,
Cynthia
Your lovely personal update in the midst of my current feed being catastrophic overwhelm was refreshing. Thank you.
Wishing Ernie health and the ability to wander again, soon.
