The other night, after the house concert, I got up to walk to the bathroom and the living room looked so empty. It was just lovely having it filled with music and people and food. Thank you to all.
Owen is still dealing with the effects of his concussion. Just not my same sweet boy. Well, he’s still sweet, but just doesn’t seem quite himself. Stress doesn’t help but it’s hard not to be stressed when your car has been totalled and you’re not left with much to find a new one.
Leo’s back at work and doing ok. He still can’t lift anything too heavy but he’s doing ok.
We just finished watching all of ER. Fifteen seasons—and each with 20 or so episodes, so it’s taken us a while. Can you imagine a season of a tv show now having that many episodes? AND, tell me why there could only be one featured nurse character at all times but there could be plenty of various doctor storylines all the time? And why did they seem to push the character Mark Greene as a heartthrob. I just don’t get it.
Was Top Chef incredibly boring this season? I mean, I tried, I really tried.
Look at what my friend Jennie dug up for me. Milktoast at the Moonlighter (later Gypsy, Mike and Molly’s, etc). Sniff, sniff. I’m guessing 1981 or 82ish.
I love kohlrabi. 💚
Breakfast while the high protein/low carb diet my health insurance wants me on. I’ve jettisoned the keto approach. I don’t know. It was hard to wrap my head around it. After trying to eat less meat, and be thoughtful with the quality of my food I was all of a sudden being bombarded with, ‘have some sausage, eat more meat, try more bacon, use artificial sweeteners, who the hell cares what’s in your food as long as it’s got no carbs.” The sausage was kind of fun, I will admit.
My station at the CSA pickup.
Olney found the printer printing to be deeply unnerving.
My guy. Olney is far from a lap cat (Ernie has Sack for that). He loves a good scratch and is very friendly but he doesn’t like to sit on laps or be picked up. That said, he is increasingly hanging out by where I sit. He is a very good guy.
Storms that rolled by just north of us.
I’ve felt lousy all weekend, stupidly nauseous. However, last night Ernie tossed a whole chicken in the oven and served it with spinach and arugula dressed with a bit of olive oil on it and it tasted heavenly. Oh, a bit of Aleppo pepper too!

And that may well be all the random notes I have in me. I am supremely dull of late. Working a lot of hours (for me) and not feeling super. I took Friday off and other than one or two emails did no work whatsoever. I watched too much tv, read, semi-napped (which means I got sleepy when I read) and relaxed. I think I needed that.
Onward.
Love,
Cynthia

Love, love, love this.
But then there’s this…
Milktoast was my high school prom band. Not officially, but the band cranking out Top 40 covers was so bad that three of us left the Illini Union and walked over to Channing Murray Foundation to hear Milktoast instead. It was a good choice.
