No Biscuit Day post yesterday. I just didn’t have it in me. The biscuits were great however, despite an oops-turned-the-oven-off-by-mistake kind of thing.
The weekend started off on a wonderful note with a Thursday happy hour show by My Politic at the Rose Bowl. It was lovely to meet Kaston and they sounded great. Keep an eye on them.
Friday was a tough day, learning that our beloved Mark Rubel had passed.
Saturday was kind of a recovery day and a few of the best friends in the world showed up with snacks and wine and flowers. Thank you Teri, Eva, Steve, and Heather.
I love this picture. Teri captured everybody perfectly.
Then I saw the news that Malcolm Holcombe had passed. I’d known things were dire but it’s still always a shock.
Another fucking loss. A legendary artist whose brilliant, almost otherworldly and fierce performances were balanced by an incredible humble sweetness. Those words don’t begin to capture him though. So much more.
One of my favorite Mark Gerking posters. Mark loved Malcolm, this is one of the few times he drew a figure rather than basing it on a photograph.
Malcolm brought us hot sauce from his garden.
A truly beautiful man. My heart goes out to his utterly beloved wife, Cyndi.
cynthia margaret is an angel o' mine
steady and strong as the stars in the sky
blown by the breeze of God's holy eye
and cynthia margaret is an angel o' mine
I know there are new talents and great music showing up all the time but this does seem like the passing of an era.
Ernie woke up yesterday with terrible pain.
So yeah, yesterday I just couldn’t write. Here I am today though.
What a difference a week makes. Last Monday we were leaving for Nashville.
Today we’re supposed to have a consult with our second oral surgeon today but Ernie’s not sure if he’ll be able to make it despite some formidable pain medication.
I do have some wonderful pictures to share with you. I promise.
Onward.
Love,
Cynthia
I'm so sorry. You and your family have been on my mind today. Too much loss.
