There’s always something so startling about seeing blood slowly dripping into Ernie’s IV. But damned if those packed red blood cells didn’t bring all their little suitcases and backpacks and do their job! Ernie has been like a different person since his transfusion. In fact, yesterday morning I had to tell him to stop talking. Twice. Suffice to say he is a bit more of a morning person than I am. But oh did it do my heart good even if I wanted him to quiet down a bit. Heh.
He still gets tired out fast…took out recycling and cleaned the catbox and was wiped out but after a rest he perked up a bit. I love having my boy back. We had hoped to do our planned Southern Iowa wander this weekend but we decided that was too much. I think we’ll do a mini-wander tomorrow and today we are taking it easy, admiring our cats and enjoying the sun.
The cats seem to be settling in even further. They’re playing together more and more. We were worried about Olney trying to bite Sack’s back but we’ve finally realized he doesn’t bite down and these days it just seems to lead to them playing and chasing each other. Yesterday I noticed her starting to walk by him, only to pause and give him a big nudge with her shoulder (I guess cats don’t really have shoulders but you know what I mean) before walking on. Heh. They chase each other under my bed and back out again. Yesterday Ernie said he went into the bathroom only to find Sack sitting on the shower chair. Then Olney popped out from underneath and thundered out of the room. They amuse the hell out of us.
And in perhaps a sad commentary on the excitement levels of our life, watching them run to the automatic feeder is becoming the highlight of our days. Last night Olney was sitting nearby waiting anxiously for it to start. He immediately galloped over and started eating. We wondered where Sack was when she suddenly came hurtling into the room so fast that she skidded across the floor when she tried to make the turn. Oh, and Sack, or Littleface, totally has Ernie wrapped around her little finger, er, paw.
Oh, and we got our last batch of Tooth Butter’s amazing sourdough English muffins. Ernie was excited which made me so happy. Ernie wanting to eat—yay!!! His favorite way of having them is toasted with peanut butter and jelly and I gotta say, it is pretty damned wonderful. My favorite might be a fried egg sandwich with greens and maybe a bit of cheese but any which way we love them. The March orders are open now. We’re trying a different loaf this time…can’t wait.
So life is feeling pretty ok right now. Worries about Ernie’s health and frustration with my lack of mobility continue of course, but we adore our entertaining little beasts, I love my job and the people I work with and the sun is shining. I know, I usually prefer rain or snow, but the sun feels good today. Tomorrow we’ll do a mini wander to see if a house I’ve been watching for a few years is still there. My gut says it will be gone but we will see and I’m sure we’ll come across something else.
Onward, and thanks for the good thoughts.
Love,
Cynthia
I'm with Ernie. I like my English Muffins with PB and J.
Good news! Enjoy tomorrow. 😊
