Ahhh. Well, then. After midnight on Friday I didn’t get much sleep as they were starting to do various prep and bloodwork, etc. for surgery. I was so relieved that it was actually going to happen.
Except it didn’t.
I got bumped. It is now scheduled for Tuesday (hopefully early slot). I gotta say, that was a blow. I’d been trying really hard to be positive and when that came crashing down, well, it was a rough day. My eyes just quietly leaked all day long. Everybody was incredibly kind but I was pretty fucking blue.
By evening I began to calm a bit and I decided comfort food was what I needed. And comfort it did. Meatloaf with mashed potatoes, and given that it’s a holiday weekend, it’s been less busy so it was even HOT! Small pleasures.
I ate and, because I didn’t have a roommate, could have the middle curtain open and watch the incredible lightning storm that rolled through as I did. Perhaps that was part of what calmed me down as well.
I woke up feeling better the next day. AND when I mentioned to one of my nurses (I have had some really great ones) how much I loved being able to see out the window…THEY MOVED ME TO THE WINDOW SIDE!!! I can’t begin to tell you how much that helps as well.
One more day, and then, God willing and the creek don’t rise…surgery on Tuesday.
I’ve decided to stop stressing about the ramp issue until I get into rehab. One thing at a time. Talked to Leo and Ernie yesterday about some changes we’ll need to make at the house. I’ve been encouraging Ernie to not spend too much time here and to get out of the house some. Silver linings you know, and he could use a few.
We lost our beloved friend Tom Mason but I will write about him later. I can’t do it right now.
I’ve been extraordinarily touched by all the messages, comments and cards. Life is humbling but there are gifts in tough times so I try to find them.
Love and thanks to all.
Cynthia
Thinking about you alot. And we heard about Tom Mason while we were in Alaska. That was a blow. Otherwise Alaska was great, but still very glad to be home. I hope all went well today.
